Call to Builders

The Hollow Merchant posts a daily request: a bundle of materials it wants today. Bring what it asks and it pays you in Chits — the Kitchen's earned currency. It is the Chit's second faucet, alongside the Chef's Challenge: one you cook for, one you spend materials for.

The whole point is choice. If you need Chits, turn materials in. If you don't, don't. The Merchant asks for real materials, so every submission is a considered trade — a way to convert a surplus you're sitting on into Chits and ladder rank, never a chore you must grind.

Today's request

Each day, at 00:00 UTC, the Merchant names one item it wants — the same request for every player. It might be 5× Standard Ingot today and something entirely different tomorrow.

It's always a common, bulk material — a base crafting material, kitchen ingredient, harvested good or notation, the kind you accumulate a surplus of. It asks for a handful (around 5), never just one. The Merchant will not ask for anything precious or scarce: no rare or mythic materials, no gear, no cultivators, no snacks, no capstone or quest pieces. Turning materials in is meant to drain a surplus you're sitting on, never to cost you something you were saving.

Submitting

When you hold enough of the day's item, hit Submit on the Call to Builders panel in the Hollow Merchant's Chit cloth. The Merchant takes the materials (they're spent — this is a sink) and, in return:

  • A Chit, on the spot — your first 5 submissions each day each pay 1 Chit. That's the daily cap.
  • Ladder points, every time — every submission (up to 10 a day) scores points toward the weekly ladder, whether or not it paid a Chit.

You can submit up to 10 times a day. Submissions 6–10 no longer pay an immediate Chit, but they still sink materials and score ladder points — so they're worth doing only if you're chasing rank.

One noun, one number, one choice

Chits are what you collect. Today's request is the number to hit. Submit or don't is the only choice. Everything else — which copies get spent, how points are scored — the Merchant handles.

The weekly ladder

Points accrue all week (Monday 00:00 UTC → Monday). At the week's close, the top builders earn a bigger Chit payout by rank:

RankWeekly Chits
1st10
2nd–3rd6
4th–10th3
11th–50th1

The daily Chit is the quick carrot; the weekly ladder is the bigger one. Because points score on every submission, it pays to keep turning materials in even on days you don't need the immediate Chit — you're buying rank.

Earned-only, and drain-heavy by design

Chits from the Call to Builders are earned-only and non-transferable, like every Hollow Merchant currency. The faucet is deliberately small (5 Chits a day, a tight weekly pool) and the material cost is the real price — so the Chit economy stays honest and the choice to submit always means something.

Where to find it

The Call to Builders lives in the Chit cloth of the Hollow Merchant, above the Temp Burner and Snack Shop. It shows today's request, how many you own, your daily progress and your weekly rank, with the full ladder a tap away.
