Worlds & Where to Play Next
The Journey's worlds are a ladder. You start in Cinderfall; each world you finish opens the next, and each one is a step up in enemy power and in the loot you pull.
The ladder
| World | Element / gear band | How it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Cinderfall (Season 1) | Volcanic · Ashen | The starter world — open from the start. |
| The Stillair (Season 2) | Storm · Stormswept | Clear Cinderfall's Herald (its capstone boss). |
| Meridian Deep (Season 3) | Tidal · Barnacled | Clear The Stillair's Herald. |
| Sonentius (Event) | SkyScape | A limited-time event world — open to everyone right now. |
Worlds unlock in order. Each sealed world opens when you clear the Herald — the capstone boss — of the world before it. Everyone starts in Cinderfall; beat its Herald and The Stillair opens, then Meridian Deep behind Stillair's. Later seasons stay sealed the same way.
Each world is a re-gear, not a coast
A new world isn't just "the same fight, bigger numbers." Enemies scale up, and your last world's kit won't carry you far. Each world brings three things at once:
-
A new gear band — Ashen → Stormswept → Barnacled — forged from that world's own materials (see World Loot). Higher band = a real power jump.
-
A new Ascension stage — worlds and ascension stages line up one-to-one, so entering a world is your cue to ascend into its bracket:
World Ascension it opens Cinderfall Stage 3 (Ascend into the Ashen bracket) The Stillair Stage 4 (Stormswept) Meridian Deep Stage 5 — the terminal stage (Barnacled) -
A tougher fight — bring the right team types and expect to grind the world's materials before you're comfortable.
You're ready when you can clear the current world's Herald — that's the gate, and it's a genuine check. If the Herald walls you, don't force the next world; re-gear in the current band, grow Essence, and ascend first. The worlds are tuned so a fresh world's opening sits about where the previous world's toughest fights end.
Event worlds are side content
Sonentius (in the Event slot) runs alongside the main ladder — it's open to everyone regardless of how far up the ladder you are, and it drops its own materials and gear. Treat event worlds as a parallel source of loot and fun, not a rung you have to climb. See SkyScape for the current event.
Once you've maxed the ladder
Cleared Meridian Deep and geared up in Barnacled? The climb continues within a world through the Dissonance dial — a difficulty slider that keeps paying richer loot as you push it. That's the endgame ladder once you've run out of new worlds to open.
