Notes on Your Gear

A Note is a portable copy of a gear piece's stat lines. You etch it into another piece and that piece gains those lines. Notes are how a good roll stops being trapped on one item โ€” and, together with Harmonize, they're the main way a team gets stronger once its gear is already Mythical.

Two numbers govern every piece of gear: its Frequency budget and its Note slot count. A Note spends both.

The short version

Get a Note (melt gear at the Scribe, or buy one at the Note Shop) โ†’ check it fits (Frequency, a free slot, the world and item-level gates) โ†’ etch it in. Etching consumes the Note permanently.

Note rarity = how many lines it carriesโ€‹

Note rarityStat / effect linesFrequency cost

Rare2~20
Mythic3~30
Legendary5~40

A Note's lines are drawn only from the gear it came from โ€” the Scribe never invents a line, so a thin piece makes a thin Note. Rarity is inherited from the melted piece (Mythical gear โ†’ Mythic Note).

Item level decides how big the lines are

Frequency cost is driven by how many lines a Note has, not how strong they are. The size of each line comes from the item level of the gear it was melted from. That means a Note melted from deep-world gear delivers more stat for the same Frequency โ€” melting your best-world spares is strictly better value than melting starter gear.

Frequency โ€” the socket budgetโ€‹

Every gear piece is stamped with a Frequency capacity when it's minted, and each Note you etch spends some of it.

Gear rarityFrequency capacity
Standard10โ€“20
Rare20โ€“40
Mythical30โ€“50
Legendary100
Celestial150

Two things add to that band:

  • Dissonance chest bonus โ€” gear won from a Dissonance chest gets +1 Frequency per Dissonance level the chest was earned at, on top of the roll, and it isn't capped. Deep pushes mint better socket bases.
  • Harmonize โ€” spend Essence to raise the capacity by +10 per Harmony level, up to H10 (+100). Live for everyone, on the gear inspect screen's Harmonize tab.

The Frequency meter (โ—†โ—†โ—†โ—‡โ—‡) on each piece shows how much is used and greys out any Note that won't fit.

Note slots โ€” the hard count limitโ€‹

Frequency is a budget; slots are a hard count. A piece can't exceed its slot cap even with Frequency to spare โ€” and Harmonize does not raise it.

Whichever runs out first โ€” Frequency or slots โ€” caps the piece. A big Frequency budget buys you few strong Notes, not many weak ones.

Etching, and the one-way doorโ€‹

Etch a Note from the Notes shelf in the Research Center, or from the Notes tab of any gear piece's inspect screen. Etching itself is free โ€” no RSNC, no Essence, no cook slot.

A Note is destroyed when you etch it, and again when you pop it

Etching consumes the Note โ€” it leaves your shelf for good and becomes part of the gear. You can remove (pop) a socketed Note to free its Frequency and slot, but the Note is not returned โ€” it was already burned at etch time. Popping just clears the space. Plan a piece before you fill it.

Melting a piece that already has Notes in it destroys those Notes too; the Scribe makes you confirm the count first.

Where a Note can go โ€” the two gatesโ€‹

Avatar (battle) Notes remember the world and item level of the gear they came from:

  • World gate. A Note carries up the world ladder, never down. A Note from a Stillair (storm) piece fits Stillair or deeper gear โ€” Meridian, Hollowroot โ€” but not Ashen / Cinderfall.
  • Item-level gate. The target piece's item level must be at least the Note's.

Both must pass. In the gear picker, an unreachable piece is greyed out with the reason (needs Stormswept+ world, needs ilvl 50+).

A few things also block an etch outright: the piece is full on slots, the Note won't fit the remaining Frequency, the Note is listed on the Bazaar (cancel the listing first), or the Note is blank (a 0-line Note can never be etched).

Kitchen Notes are ungated

The world and item-level gates apply to battle Notes only. Kitchen Notes โ€” which carry cook success %, cook time % and result rarity % โ€” have neither, but they only fit Kitchen rack equipment. Battle Notes and Kitchen Notes never cross over.

Making Notes better โ€” Elevateโ€‹

Three Notes of the same rarity and same domain merge into one Note of the next rarity up (Standard โ†’ Rare โ†’ Mythic โ†’ Legendary is the ceiling), keeping more lines drawn from the three inputs' combined pool. It's instant, costs Resonant Ink plus RSNC, and lives on the Kitchen's Scribing stall. Full costs on The Scribe โ†’ Elevate.

Feed Elevate your worst duplicates; a standout single Note is usually better etched as-is.

Tipsโ€‹

  • Melt spares from your deepest world. Same Frequency cost, bigger lines, and the Note still reaches every piece at that world or deeper.
  • Fill the slot cap, not the budget. A Standard piece takes 2 Notes however much Frequency you give it. Check the cap before you Harmonize.
  • Harmonize to fit, then stop. Buy exactly the Frequency the Note you want needs.
  • Don't pop Notes to experiment. Removal frees the space but burns the Note. Decide the build, then etch.
  • Check the Note Shop daily. Five Notes a day are drawn for you personally, priced in Crest at roughly 0.8 ร— their Frequency โ€” often cheaper than melting a piece you'd rather keep.
